Efate Map Guide

Efaté is the main island of Vanuatu. Although not the largest island in the archipelago (Santo is the largest), it is the heart of Vanuatu, a hub of business and tourism. The capital is Port Vila, sited on a protected harbour on the south-west of the island and the largest town in Vanuatu. The island is not too big, roughly circular and about 30 kms wide, and there is an annual fun run around the island each year that attracts many tourists and competitors. The main peak on the island, Macdonald, is only 647m high. Port Vila holiday resorts, motels and apartments can be found in and around the capital. Erakor Lagoon is a popular tourist vacation spot, as is Mele Bay, and many Vanuatu hotels and lodgings can be found in both spots. There are a number of Efate resorts found around the island, as well as on nearby small islands such as Moso.

Efaté is also a stepping stone to other tourist destinations in Vanuatu, such as Santo in the North and Tanna in the South.
