Scuba Diving Holiday Guide
Diving experiences in Vanuatu are rich and diverse, from coral reefs, dramatic drop-offs, and wreck sites to shark feeding and freshwater cave dives. By far the most popular area with scuba dive enthusiasts is the island of Santo, about one hour's domestic flight from the capital of Port Vila. There are a number of dive operators here catering for all sorts of dive trips but especially focussing on wreck diving. One of the world's most well-known wrecks, the SS President Coolidge, is found here, as well as the the USS Tucker off Malo Island. Million Dollar Point is another popular dive site; this is where the US military dumped a huge amount of equipment and machinery at the end of the second World War. Freshwater cave diving and shark feeding is available at one of the other dive operations.
- Dive the world-famous SS President Coolidge
- Explore the USS Tucker and Million Dollar Point
- Go freshwater cave diving or join a shark feed dive.
- Learn to dive in the shallow reefs off Port Vila.
- Take a cruise through the islands of Vanuatu and explore pristine and dramatic drop offs.
- Enjoy fantastic visibility at the drop-offs north of Efate
Although the Santo wrecks draw a large number of divers, other great diving is to be found elsewhere in Vanuatu. In Port Vila there are a number of dive operators running dive trips to nearby reefs where divers can see a multitude of fish life and colourful corals. Efate has its share of wrecks also, including the ex Qantas Sandringham flying boat Tasman, the Konanda, Semle Federeson and the Star of Russia. Day cruises to the north of Efate allow divers to witness incredible drop-offs and excellent visibility around Hat Island, Turtle Reef, Paul's Reef, Moso Island and Tukutuku.
